Up The Road and Around the Bend FALL 2005
Well it has been a busy summer here at Meadowbrook Camping Area in Phippsburg, Me. I have been working at the campground since April and we have had a very busy summer. I got a report from my daughter that we have cooked 2380 lbs of lobster and many more pounds of clams. Here at the Campground we have about 125 sites and, many a night, they were all full, with people parked everywhere. Some of the improvements we made this year were Wi Fi through out the campground, a new liner in the pool and we moved the Gazebo from the main lawn to the pool area. I will be heading out next week for Lisbon, Connecticut for a campground owners retreat. One of the things I like doing is going to other campgrounds and getting ideas for Meadowbrook. I did manage a trip to Greenville, Maine with Lil’ Chris (my Grandson). We went up and stayed with Skip Hickey at his camp in Shirley, just outside of Greenville and we got to see Moosehead Lake. It was a relaxing weekend. We stopped at Fort Western, in Augusta on our way back to Meadowbrook. I am posting a picture of lil Chris at Fort Western.
Although I will miss my kids and grandchildren it will be nice to get back to Panama City Beach, Florida and see all my friends. I enjoy dancing and there are not a lot of places to go up here. I will be making a lot of stops along the way. I will keep you updated as I go. Until next time......... Today is the day before I am leaving Meadowbrook. I am getting the rig ready to move. It is a crisp fall day and it was in the forty’s last night. Glad I brought my tomato plant in. It is still producing tomatoes This is blue angle weekend at NAS Brunswick. The campground is like a ghost town with everyone gone to the Air Show. With 20 years in Naval Aviation, I deceided to listen to it from here. After All it is the Sound of freedom. I have been stationary for over 4 months. This is the longest I have been in one place. So it takes a lot to get ready to move. Everything has to be in it’s place. I headed out this morning and it was hot just like summer. Indian summer in Maine is beautiful. I will miss everyone. I and heading for Ross Hill Park, family campground in Lisbon Ct. It has been and uneventful trip and I arrived Ross Hill Park about 2pm there staff was welcoming and friendly. After a bike ride, I rode around the park and found out this RV park is on the Banks of the Quinebaug River. This is a beautiful Park. I will be leaving Thursday. My next stop was Gettysburg, Pa., one of my favorite areas. I stayed at Artillery Ridge Campground, Which is a Passport America Park, and I had a great stay. I stayed 4 days. The first day I rode up to the Pa Monument to look for my Great Grandfathers name, but there was so many names I didn’t know what outfit he was in. That night my T-mobile internet was working so I did a google search and found a site that all you have to do is type in name of individual and sure enough I found my Great Grandfather, Lewis B. Heckroth. The next day I rode my bicycle back up to the monument and I found his name.
Tom finds his Great Grandfather’s NameGettysburg was a great and I headed for the next stop on my journey. On the road by 9am and I was heading to Williamsburg, Va. It was and easy 5 hour trip from Gettysburg, to Williamsburg and I was within my 350 mile limit. This limit was set so I didn’t have to stop and get gas with my trailer hooked up. I have found that it is easier that way. I arrived at and I stayed at a campground across from The Jamestown settlement and I can’t remember the name of it but I left the next morning. I was very unhappy with it. It needed a lot of work and I Had no wireless, so I moved up to Anvil Campground just inside of Williamsburg. This was a much better campground and I stayed there a week. It is a very small RV Park but it has a lot of friendly people in it. Williamsburg is a very Bicycle friendly town. I rode bat down to Jamestown settlement and toured the settlement and it was worth every penny. From there I took the colonial Hwy back to Historic Williamsburg and for a week I did nothing but ride my bike 25 miles a day. I really enjoyed my self. From Williamsburg I headed to Wilson, N C to a Passport America park. Until Next Time......
